18 Campaign Finance and Contributions
This Site is operated by Friends of Jason Kashdan, the candidate committee supporting Jason Kashdan's campaign for Providence City Council, Ward 3. Any contribution made through this Site is a political contribution to that committee. Political contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
By making a contribution through this Site, you certify that each of the following statements is true:
The contribution is made from your own funds, is not made from the funds of another person or entity, and is not being reimbursed by anyone. Rhode Island law prohibits contributions made anonymously, in a fictitious name, or by one person or group in the name of another (R.I. Gen. Laws § 17-25-12).
You are a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident holding a green card. Federal law prohibits contributions from foreign nationals in connection with any federal, state, or local election (52 U.S.C. § 30121).
The contribution is not made from the treasury funds of a corporation, whether for profit or nonprofit. Rhode Island law makes it unlawful for a corporation to make a campaign contribution or expenditure to or for any candidate (R.I. Gen. Laws § 17-25-10.1(h)(1)).
The contribution, added to everything you have already given this committee in the same calendar year, does not exceed two thousand dollars ($2,000). Rhode Island law limits contributions from any one person or political action committee to any one candidate to $2,000 per calendar year (R.I. Gen. Laws § 17-25-10.1(a)(1)).
You are making the contribution on a credit card, debit card, or checking account held in your own name.
Reporting and public disclosure. Rhode Island law requires this committee to report the name, address, and place of employment of any source whose contributions exceed two hundred dollars ($200) (R.I. Gen. Laws § 17-25-7(a)). Reports are filed with the Rhode Island Board of Elections and are public records. We collect that information for that purpose and handle it as described in our Privacy Policy.
Cash contributions. Rhode Island law requires contributions of funds to be made by check, money order, or credit card, and requires that the source of the funds be identified in each case (R.I. Gen. Laws § 17-25-10.1(i)). This committee may accept no more than twenty-five dollars ($25.00) in cash from any one individual within a calendar year, that cash must be delivered by the donor directly to the candidate or the campaign treasurer, and the treasurer keeps a record of the name and address of every cash contributor.
Anonymous contributions. This committee cannot use or spend anonymous contributions. Rhode Island law requires that they be returned to the donor if the donor can be identified, and that they otherwise escheat to the state (R.I. Gen. Laws § 17-25-10(c)).
Refunds. If a contribution exceeds a legal limit or comes from a prohibited source, we will refund it in whole or in part. If you believe you have contributed in error, contact us using the information in Section 19.
